Rodney E. Cheney, 57, of Cherokee, died Saturday, April 29, 2023, at his home in Cherokee. Born July 30, 1965 in Girard, Rodney was the son of Donald and Fannie Mae (Mc-Clelland) Cheney. They preceded him in death. He attended Southeast schools and graduated from Southeast High School with the class of 1983.
Rodney was a concrete finisher, starting his career at B&H Construction and Home Center Construction, before going out on his own. He also worked at Pittsburg State University for over 20 years. Rodney enjoyed his mules and his hunting dogs.
Rodney and Jodi Lewman were united in marriage September 6, 1990 at Pittsburg. They later divorced.
Rodney is survived by three children, Clinton Cheney (Molli) of Frontenac, Seth Cheney of Kansas City and Elizabeth Heacock (Matt) of Melbourne, Fla.; four grandchildren, Chase Cheney, Colin Cheney, Madelyn Heacock and Amelia Heacock. Four brothers, Steve Cheney and Mike Cheney both of McCune, Craig Roger Cheney of Frontenac and a sister, Kathy Mauro of Overland Park; best friend Kim Hudlemeyer of Cherokee also survive.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 5 at the Cherokee Cemetery. Pastor Donnie Talent will officiate. Friends are requested to meet at the cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 4 at Brenner Mortuary in Pittsburg. Memorial donations can be made to Harry Hynes Hospice.
