Sympathy or empathy?

In our dealings with others it is necessary to have both sympathy and empathy, although there are times when we need more of one than the other. Sympathy, as the word implies, is a “feeling with” the other person, from the Greek root “sym” meaning “with” and “pathos” meaning “feeling.”
