Shirley Chaney, 85, Parsons

Shirley L. Chaney, 85, a longtime Parsons resident, died at 7:47 a.m., Friday, June 25, 2021, at her home.

Born September 29, 1935, at Parsons, Shirley was the daughter of Orville and Maxine (Jones) Caldwell. She grew up at Parsons and attended Parsons schools graduating from Parsons High School with the class of 1954. She later attended Parsons Junior College where she received certification as a surgical technician.

Shirley worked at Mercy Hospital and then the Labette County Medical Center as a Certified Surgical Technician for many years until her retirement in the 1990’s. In her retirement Shirley worked as a cake decorator at Country Mart in Parsons.

She enjoyed growing flowers, collecting angels, decorating cakes, having breakfast with friends on the weekends, doing crossword puzzles, and arts and crafts.

Shirley and Paul Chaney were united in marriage June 13, 1959, at Chetopa. He preceded her in death December 6, 1994.

Shirley is survived by two sons, Rick Chaney, (wife, Paula) of Parsons and Randy Chaney, (wife, Kris) of Parsons; two daughters, Tina Beery, (husband Derrick) of Columbus and Lisa Chaney of Parsons and eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by two brothers, Don Caldwell, and Robert Daniels.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 30, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Reverend Wayne Mason will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery at Parsons.
