Patricia “Patty” Ann Flood, 59, of Columbus, died September 30, 2021, after battling cancer. Born August 1962, in Oswego, Patty was the daughter of John and Eva Poor.
Patty grew up in Oswego. She was a graduate of Bonner Springs High School with the class of 1980. After high school, Patty learned she had a passion for helping others. Patty first attended beauty school and worked in salons. Patty also worked a short while for National Mills in Carl Junction, Mo., using her talents with sewing.
Finally, Patty decided to become an EMT. She later advanced her degree through Coffeyville Community College to serve as a paramedic and worked for Cherokee County EMS for a little over 30 years. Patty also became certified to teach EMT classes and helped lead many to serve their community as she did. In those 30 years of service, Patty met and served a lot of people and was a good friend to many. Being a paramedic was her passion and she served her community with pride and professionalism.
Mixed within her education and career, Patty gave birth to a daughter, Hillary in 1985 and later married Les Flood in 1999. They were married for 22 years.
Patty had a wonderful sense of humor and loved making people laugh, she brought calm to any stressful situation when acting as a paramedic. In her free time, Patty enjoyed crafting and baking cakes for customers. Patty loved her family and dogs. Patty is survived by her spouse, Les of Columbus; daughter Hillary Smith, of Columbus; sisters, Janice Chebultz of Columbus and Leah Doty of Galena; stepson, Aaron Flood, of Columbus, grandson, Ryker Youngblood, of Columbus; step grandson Hunter Flood and step granddaughter Lauryn Flood, both Columbus and four grand dogs.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 6, at 10 a.m. The service will take place at the Camp Joy Church, 133 East Pine Street, in Columbus.
