Brady Lee Vanatta, 31, of Columbus died Thursday, November 25, 2021.
Born December 19, 1989, Brady was the son of Tom and Cheryl (Robison) Vanatta. He attended Columbus Schools and graduated with the Class of 2008.
While attending high school, he worked for Jon DePratt and DePratt Equipment and Repair. He then worked at Prestige, Bennie and Holly Capron Turkey Farm, Stockyards, Josh and Jake Hall Fencing Co., John Parsons Cattle Co, and continued to help with the Spring and Fall Roundups up until his death. He also worked for Mike Moyer doing concrete work. Brady was a bullfighter for the youth rodeo and Moyers. He raised cattle, cut and sold firewood, and built fence throughout his lifetime.
He was a very talented artist. He loved to hunt, fish, trap, and look for mushrooms every spring. He was a very good cook.
During his youth, Brady was a member of the Spring Valley Sparklers 4-H Club, where he showed goats, hogs, chickens, and garden produce at the County Fair each year.
He attended First Christian Church and was baptized June 4, 2006 by Rev. Dan Haggard.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Vern and Wilma Robison, and paternal grandparents, Bruce and Dorothy Vanatta.
In addition to his parents, Brady is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Laura and David Holmes, of Columbus; and nieces Ryleigh and Reagen, who adored their Uncle Brady.
He is also survived by his best friend, who was like a brother, Robert Moeckel (wife Megan), of Columbus, and their daughter Abigail, who loved her “Uncle B.”
Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends also survive.
Services will be held Tuesday, December 7 at Derfelt Funeral Home in Columbus at 2 p.m. Garland Bohn will officiate. In lieu of flowers may be made to Cherokee County 4-H Council, in care of the funeral home. The family requests that attendees observe COVID-19 protocols.
