Martha Louise Brooks, 91,of Columbus, more recently of Galena, died Sunday, January 16, 2022 at the Galena Nursing Center.
Born October 15, 1930 in rural Columbus, Louise was the daughter of Ralph Gibson and Clara Johnson Gibson.
Louise married Lloyd Atkinson in 1949. He preceded her in death 1959. Then in 1965, she married Bill Brooks. He preceded her in death in 1985.
Louise worked as a clerk in the district court, grocery clerk and owned and operated her own restaurant. She also loved to crochet and sing.
In addition to her parents, and husbands, Louise was preceded in death by, one brother, Ed Gibson; two sisters, Mona Claire Price and Mildred Carter.
Louise is survived by five sons, Bob Atkinson, of Augusta, Galen Atkinson (wife Sue) of , Rosehill, Randy Brooks (wife, Krist), of Joplin, Mo., Alvin Atkinson (wife Kate), of Tulsa, Okla. and Neil Atkinson a (wife Car), of Juneau, Alaska; two sisters, Ruth Hartley, of Baxter Springs, and Helen Bohr, of Independence. Thirteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; and two great-great granddaughters also survive.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Friday, January 21, at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus. The Family will receive friends Thursday January 20, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Park Cemetery, at Columbus.
