Janis Hubble Vanderpool, 75, of Lubbock, Texas, died January 12, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born July 11, 1946, Janis was the daughter of Enoch Holland Edwards and Dorothy Ohair Edwards. They preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Don Keith Edwards.
A lifelong Lubbock resident, Janis had several successful small businesses with her brother, Tim and worked tirelessly for the betterment of the community through her involvement with several art-related charities. She was a longtime Board Member of the Lubbock Arts Alliance, previous chairperson of the Lubbock Arts Festival and most recently recognized as “2021 Volunteer of the Year” by the Texas Festivals and Events Association for her work with the organization.
Janis was an excellent artist in the medium of pottery and was instrumental in establishing the Clay Studio at LHUCA. She founded the Llano Estacado Clay Guild and its marquee event the “Wine and Clay Festival” which will celebrate its 25th anniversary this year. Janis was a Master Gardener and an active member of the Lubbock Master Gardener Association.
Janis is survived by her devoted husband, Richard “Rick” D. Vanderpool; her beloved son, Clayton Hubble (wife Lisa); grandchildren, Stephanie Tubbs Mancias, Brantlee Sells,(wife, Alissa); great-grandchildren, Kiersten, Alyssa, Rilee (Bug), Grayson; her best friend and brother, Tim Edwards (wife, Shannon); niece, Lacy Jo Lusk, (husband, Jay); nephew, Zachary Edwards (wife, Paige); great-nieces, Emarie, Preslee and Razee; greatnephew, Cooper.
A funeral services was held Thursday, January 20 at the Worship Center, West Campus. Interment was in Lubbock Cemetery alongside her father, mother and brother. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for memorials to be made to Lubbock Arts Alliance, Llano Estacado Clay Guild, or Lubbock Master Gardeners.
