Carl Strickland, 74, of Oswego died at 8:42 a.m., Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Mercy Hospital, in Springfield, Mo. following an illness.
Born November 19, 1947, in Labette County, Carl was the son of Wayne and Betty (Brown) Strickland. Carl had lived in Oswego all of his life.
A veteran of the Vietnam war, Carl served his country from 1967 until 1969. He was of the Methodist faith.
Carl was Past Commander and Sergeant of Arms in the Oswego Veterans of Foreign Wars. Carl enjoyed hunting and fishing with his kids and grandkids. He was a family man and enjoyed activities with both his immediate family and his extended family.
Carl and Cathy Wimp were united in marriage June 11, 1976 in Oswego. She survives.
In addition to his wife, Carl is survived by two sons, Mark Strickland (wife, Mandy), of Oswego and Mike Strickland (wife, Nicki) of Neosho, Mo.; two sisters, Andre Gemba and Wanda Strickland, both of Oswego; and six grandchildren, Abby Strickland, Sydney Strickland, Braden Strickland, River Brill, Emma Brill and Jack Brill; and several nieces and nephews.
Carl was preceded in death by one son, Jason Strickland, his parents and his great-grandparents.
Graveside funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 24 at Oswego Cemetery, in Oswego. Eddie Williamson will officiate. Military rites will be observed by the Parsons VFW.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 23, at Derfelt Funeral Home, in Oswego. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oswego High School Scholarship fund in care of the funeral home.
