Steve Phipps, 69 of Galena, died at his home surrounded by his family at 3:54 Wednesday, March 16, 2022 following a long battle with cancer. Born in Joplin, Mo. Steve was the son of Lee Phipps and Ferrol Odessa (Allen) Phipps. They preceded him in death. Steve was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Monty Phipps and Tim Phipps.
Steve graduated from Galena High School with the Class of 1970. He went on to attend Franklin Technical Institute where he received his certification in electronics. He worked in the technology department at Galena USD 499 for 23 years, retiring in 2019. He was a lifetime resident of Galena. In his free time Steve enjoyed tinkering around and fixing things, as well as woodworking. You could often hear him playing his guitar and keyboard or listening to his favorite music. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.
Steve and Sherry L. Channel were united in marriage January 12, 1980 in Galena. She survives.
In addition to his wife, Sherry, Steve is survived by three sons, Trey Phipps of Galena, Lee Phipps (wife, Cori) of Wichita and Steven Phipps (Galenea) of Lawrence; two brother, Terry Phipps (wife, Barb) of Palmview, Texas and David Phipps (wife, Rose Marie) of Livermore, Calif. Six grandchildren, Alicia, Killian, Austin, Sadie, Trenton and Alexus one great-granddaughter, Ellisyn and a dear friend and co-worker, Jason Grother also survive.
