Dorothy Smith, Baxter Springs

Dorothy Smith, 94, of Baxter Springs, died March 26, 2022, at Quaker Hill Skilled Nursing Facility in Baxter Springs. Born April 20, 1927, in Stella, Mo., Dorothy was the daughter of Wilbur Lee and Nola Pearl (Spiva) Collier.

Dorothy and Trueman G. Smith were united in marriage December 24, 1948 in Miami, Okla. Dorothy was a loving mother of five children. She was a faithful Christian and longtime active member of First Baptist Church in Baxter Springs.

Dorothy was an accomplished artist who especially enjoyed painting nature scenes that included flowers, birds, and butterflies, but she really loved painting biblical scenes which truly showed off her amazing talent. She enjoyed growing beautiful flowers and spending time with her extended family.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Trueman Smith; her parents; five sisters, Wilma Long, Wilda Brock, Maybelle Woolston, Mary Faye Woolston and Colleen Turley; one brother, Jerry Collier; one daughter-in-law, Kathi Smith; and one grandson, Dr. Preston Smith.

Dorothy is survived by her three sons, Bruce Smith (wife Mary Beth) and Darrell Smith both of Baxter Springs and Galen Smith of Topeka; two daughters, Laura Scott (husband Steve) of Overland Park and Brenda Lane (husband Benny) of Grove, Okla.; seven grandchildren, Courtney Rector (husband Charles), Leslie Minor (husband James), Juli Schultz, Dr. Greg Scott (wife Angela), Dr. Cameron Smith (wife Emily), Clinton Lane (wife Stacey) and Tyler Lane; fifteen great grandchildren, Brayden Rector, Bryce Rector, Seth Barton, Isaac Barton, Cole Minor, Stason Lane, Ciron Lane, Seyena Lane, Jonas Schultz, Oliver Schultz, Beau Scott, Cordell Scott, Baby Scott, Walker Smith, and Caroline Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 2, at the First Baptist Church, in Baxter Springs. Pastor Jeff Street will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church.

Burial will follow at Baxter Springs Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church in lieu of flowers.
