Barbara Jean (Jacoby) Hay, 85 of Baxter Springs, died at 5:43 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2022, at her home in Baxter Springs. Born July 29, 1936 in Burlington, Iowa, Barbara was the daughter of Carson Franklin Jacoby and Jean Leora (Gregory) Jacoby. She enjoyed dancing in her youth and later in life, enjoyed traveling, reading books and biographies about famous actors and going shopping.
Barbara spent many years working in the home as she raised her children and also worked as a telephone operator for Pacific Bell and as a paraeducator for Hueneme Christian Elementary School in Hueneme, Calif. while living in Oxnard, Calif. She was a member of Crossroads Christian Church of Baxter Springs.
Barbara and Kenneth Franklin Hay were united in marriage May 14, 1954 in Burlington, Iowa. He preceded her in death July 29, 2010.
In addition to her husband, Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Carson and Jean Jacoby.
Barbara is survived by two sons, Jeff Hay (wife, Carmen) of Galena and Steven Hay of Ventura, Calif.; daughter, Cindy Leal of Baxter Springs; and brother, Richard Jacoby of California. Five grandchildren, Brandon Hay and Catelyn Spence (husband, Reed) both of Baxter Springs, Cody Leal (wife, Carolyn) of Topeka, Kyle Hay of Duneweg, Mo. and Amanda Kemp (husband, Ryan) of Joplin, Mo.; four great-grandchildren, Heath Spence, Skyy Hay, Carson Spence, and Emmalea Spence also survive.
The family will host a memorial service at 5 p.m. Friday, April 8 with visitation following until 7 p.m. Barbara will then be taken to Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo, Calif. to be buried beside her husband, Kenneth.
Cremation has been entrusted to Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel.
