Barbara Ann Whitehorse, 73, Baxter Springs, died Thursday, June 11, 2026.
Born August 2, 1952, Barbara lived a life defined by faith, service, creativity and devotion to her family.
Barbara was a veteran of the National Guard and remained active in supporting fellow veterans through her involvement with the American Legion. Her commitment to service extended beyond her military years and reflected her deep sense of duty and care for others.
A devoted member of the Baxter Springs Church of the Nazarene, Barbara found strength and fellowship in her faith community. She was known for her kind spirit and willingness to lend a helping hand whenever needed.
Barbara found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She was an avid reader and a talented fiber artist who enjoyed weaving and spinning. Through these hobbies, she created not only beautiful works but also lasting memories with those who shared her interests.
Barbara also had a lifelong love of animals. Horses were a special part of her life and she owned and cared for them throughout the years. She had a generous heart for animals in need and frequently welcomed dogs in need of care into her home, providing them with love, comfort and a second chance. Her compassion for animals reflected the kindness she showed to all living things.
Above all, Barbara cherished her family. Survivors include her son, Philip; her daughter-inlaw, Johanna; and her beloved grandsons, James and Benjamin. She took great pride in her family and treasured moments spent together.
A memorial service celebrating Barbara’s life will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, August 8, at the Baxter Springs Church of the Nazarene. A reception will follow the service and family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and fellowship.
