Carrie F. “Kay” Williams, 82, of Owasso, Okla., formerly of Chetopa, died at 4:22 p.m., Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at Covenant Living at Inverness in Tulsa, Okla. Carrie Frances Bodine was born June 4, 1940, to Louie and Ruth (Eubanks) Bodine in Oklahoma. When Carrie was four, her father was killed in World War II. Her mother later married Richard Burrows, who raised Carrie as his own. Her family lived in Arkansas before moving to Columbus where she grew up and attended school at Columbus High School.
Carrie and Harold D. “Bus” Williams were united in marriage January 19, 1957, at Miami, Oklahoma. The couple made a home in Wichita before moving to Chetopa, where they farmed. Carrie worked in the Chetopa schools as a teacher’s aide over the years. After retiring from farming, they moved to Tulsa, Okla. to be closer to family.
Carrie was a member of the First Christian Church of Chetopa. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and quilting and made wedding cakes for a time.
Carrie is survived by daughters, Kay Winn (Scott) of Owasso, Okla. and Sandy Hightower (J.L,) of Tulsa, Okla, Five grandchildren, Kaysi Moore (Rocky), Kyle Winn, Lexie Beauchamp (Kyle), Lucas Kinion (Sarah Luna) and Mackenzie Brown (Shane); four great-grandchildren, Elle, Kate, Jack and Erika; and sister, Caroline Puddin of Mulvane also survives.
Carrie was preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Bus” Williams January 2, 2013; her son, Darryl Ray Williams; one sister and one brother.
There will be a graveside service at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, October 1, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
