James Eugene Sherrod, 74, of Joplin, Mo., died Saturday, February 12, 2022.
Born in Ponca City, Okla., March 27, 1947, James was the son of Lewis and Hazel Sherrod. They preceded him in death. James was also preceded in death by a sister Kay Harrison and daughter Jan Cude.
James and Lutishey Gayle Nichols were united in marriage June 20, 1965 in Blackwell, Okla. They celebrated 56 years of marriage.
A graduate of Ponca City High School, James continued his education at Okmulgee Tech. He worked as a commercial artist and draftsman for City Oil in Tulsa, Okla., Ozark Christian College and College Press both in Joplin, Mo., Electron in Blackwell, Okla. and American Metals in Ponca City, Okla.
In his spare time James enjoyed various hobbies, but he could often be found working on antique tractors and spending time with his grandkids. He was also actively involved in the Car Care ministry at College Heights Christian Church.
James is survived by his wife Lutishey Sherrod of Joplin, Mo.; daughter Joy Phelps (husband Don) of Tonkawa, Okla.; sons Jay Sherrod (wife Amy) of Neodesha and Jon Sherrod (wife Jennifer) Sherrod, of Joplin, Mo.; and brother Walter Sherrod of Newkirk, Okla. Six grandchildren, Erick Sherrod of Neodesha, Stephanie Owen of Wichita, Kristin Phelps of Kansas City, Mo., Levi Sherrod and Julie Sherrod both of Joplin, Mo. and Leslie Phelps of Tahlequah, Okla.
A memorial visitation will be held in Joplin, Mo. at Park Plaza Christian Church, 3220 Indiana Avenue, February 26 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
