Johna Chubb, 76, Chicopee

Johna Marie Chubb, 76, Chicopee, died at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born January 19, 1950, in Chicopee, Johna was the daughter of John and Marie Theresa (Scaramucci) Ferneti. She was a lifelong resident of the area, a graduate of Southeast High School, and later earned her nursing degree from Labette College.

Johna and Dr. Richard Chubb were united in marriage November 19, 1986, in Tulsa, Okla. He preceded her in death January 8, 2019.

Johna worked as a Registered Nurse alongside her husband, Dr. Richard Chubb, in Baxter Springs. She later worked as a Home Health Nurse in Claremore, Oklahoma.

She was a devoted member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Johna cherished her Italian heritage, her beloved hometown of Chicopee, her beautiful petunia gardens, watching the birds that visited her yard, traveling throughout Europe and, above all else, spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents and husband, Johna was preceded in death by numerous aunts and uncles; her cousins, Casper Ferneti and John Moutz; her stepson, Charles Chubb; and her grandson, Greg Chubb.

Survivors include her son, Eugene Huslig and his partner, Yvonne Rosenberg, of McAllen, Texas; her grandchildren, MaKenzie Huslig of Chicago, Illinois, Zeke Huslig and Finn Huslig both of Kansas City, Missouri; her beloved cousins, Mike, Sis, Kathy, Jim, Jeanne, Scott, Carla and Julie; her nieces, Jackie Moore and Stephanie Robinson and her husband, Jerry, all of Chicopee; her late husband’s children, Laura Atkinson and her husband, Rick, of Baxter Springs, Sally Ann Tibbits of Grove, Oklahoma, Rick Chubb and his wife, Leslie, of Mashpee, Massachusetts, Jeff Chubb and his wife, Bev, of Independence and Kathy Patton and her husband, Wayne, of Springdale, Arkansas; six granddaughters, three grandsons, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren expected in the coming months.

Johna’s greatest gift was the way she cared for others. Whether as a nurse, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, or a friend, she gave of herself with compassion, quiet strength and unconditional love. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of kindness, faith, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of those she loved.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with Fr. Michael Simone serving as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Highland Park Cemetery in Pittsburg.

The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Chicopee Foundation. Memorials may be dropped off or mailed to: Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 522 S. Broadway Pittsburg, KS 66762
