Leila Marietta Scott

Leila Marietta (Vanderpool) Scott, 73, of Galena, died peacefully early on February 1, 2022, after a brief illness.

Leila was a lifelong resident of Galena, a graduate of Galena High School with the class of 1966. She loved to stay busy creating things with her hands, always cheerful and giving, a good friend to everyone who knew her. Leila most loved her family.

Leila is survived by her husband, John (Butch) Scott; her children, Shawna Leigh Serage of Galena and Clark Franklin (Frank) Freeman (wife Cheri) of Pierce City, Mo.; her grandchildren, Stevie Freeman, of Carthage, Mo.; Jamie Logan, Avrey Freeman, and Kameron Freeman (fiancé Jess), all of Springfield, Mo.; and Paige Byrd, of California; great grandchildren, Payton Robertson, and Ayden Robertson, of Carthage, Maxon Freeman and Violet Sherman, both of Texas. Also surviving is a brother Clark Galen (Dutch) Vanderpool (wife Mary) of Tennessee and her nephews Jerry David Shallenburger, Bryan Todd Shallenburger (wife Lisa), William West Vanderpool, Clark Culver Vanderpool (wife Amanda), and Nathan Allen Vanderpool (wife Katie).

Leila was preceded in death by her parents Clark Franklin Vanderpool and Marietta Ruth (Culver) Vanderpool, sister Carolyn Grace (Vanderpool) Shallenburger and grandchild Shaylinn Freeman. Leila was a wonderful person who believed in God

Leila was a wonderful person who believed in God with Whom she now rests eternally. Her favorite song was “I Can Only Imagine” by Mercy Me. A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
