Linda Scales, 79, Girard

Linda Lee Scales 79, Girard, died at 4:18 a.m. Thursday June 18, 2026 at the Medical City Hospital in Plano, Texas, following a short illness.

Born January 18, 1947, in Pittsburg, Linda was the daughter of William “Bill” Lee Clugston and Bonnalyn “Bonnie” Katherine (Bryan) Guston. She was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of Southeast High School in Cherokee.

Linda and Donald Earl Scales were united in marriage January 30, 1965, in Crawford County. He preceded her in death February 18, 2024.

Linda worked most of her life with her husband at their J&W Poultry Company in Girard. She was of the Christian faith, a member of the American Legion, the Little Balkans Quilt Guild, SNPJ Officer and was known to love her flower garden she planted every spring.

In addition to her husband and parents, Linda was preceded in death by in-laws Melvin Scales, Maurice Scales and Judith Scales.

Survivors include her children Glen W. Scales and wife Sherry of Allen, Texas and Donna L. Platt and husband Steven of Butler, Mo.; siblings Dennis Clugston and wife Sandra of Deer Park, Texas, Paula Clugston and Peggy Rowley both of Pittsburg and Garry Clugston and David Mitchell of Tulsa, Okla.; grandchildren Jenny Jo Burdine, Kaleb Platt, Breanna Jones and Tessa Webb; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday June 22 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg with Pastor Duane Elmore officiating. Burial followed at the Monmouth Cemetery in McCune. In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to SNPJ Scholarship Fund and/or Girard American Legion Post #26.
