Mary Ellen Keyser, 89, of Galena, died at 4:30 p.m., Sunday, January 23, 2022 at her home following an illness. Born August 15, 1932 in Galena, Mary Ellen was the daughter of John Warren and Grace Jeanette (Oliver) Chase. She lived most of her life in Galena.
Mary Ellen moved to New York with her husband in 1969 and then transferred to Ohio before returning to Galena in 1987. She worked as a secretary for CF Industries and as a home health aide while in New York. She was a member of First Christian Church, of Galena. She was also involved in the Galena Eastern Star. She enjoyed gardening and bowling.
Mary Ellen and Herman L Keyser were united in marriage December 11, 1948 in Bentonville Ark. He preceded her in death June 18, 2019. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Steve Keyser and Mike Keyser, and one brother, Jim Chase.
Mary Ellen is survived by two sons, Mark Keyser, of Galena, and Mitchell Keyser (Donna), of West Harrison, Ind.; one daughter, Jona Newman, of Galena; a brother, Robert Chase (Pam), of Idaho Falls, ID. Ten grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren also survive.
Cremation has been entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home, of Galena. The family will celebrate her life at a later date.
