Rebecca (Becky) Minyon Lopp, 71, of Springfield, Illinois, died peacefully in her home, August 24, 2021 after a five-year battle with end-stage renal disease.
Born January 29, 1950 in Newport, Rhode Island, Becky was the daughter of Chester and Carol Houston. She graduated from Columbus Unified High School with the class of 1968.
In high school, Becky met the love of her life, George (Bob) Robert Lopp, Jr. They were united in marriage in 1969. They were blessed by three beautiful children; Melanie, Brian and Eric. They raised their family and enjoyed many wonderful years in Bettendorf, Iowa. George and Becky were happily married for forty-nine years. He preceded her in death.
Becky devoted her life’s work to nursing. She earned her Registered Nursing degree at Scott Community College. She had a lifelong passion for patient advocacy and nursing was definitely the field for her. Her first job was for Mercy Hospital (later it became Genesis Medical Center) in Davenport, Iowa. She worked primarily as an inpatient Orthopedic nurse and enjoyed a thirty-eight-year career in nursing. She was a founding member and president of the National Association of Orthopedic Nurses chapter in Davenport, Iowa. She retired in 2014.
Time with family and enjoying holidays were very important to her. She celebrated time together and graced many family gatherings with delicious meals, gorgeous decorations, and generous gifts. She was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Becky also deeply loved travel. She spent her spare time with family, exploring many places across Europe and the United States. She researched and was incredibly detailed with her planning, allowing her to get the most out of every destination. She loved to return home and begin dreaming about what the next adventure would bring. Becky will be dearly remembered and deeply missed.
Becky is survived by sister Kathy (Dr. Dave) Jones, brother William (Rhonda) Houston, her three children: Melanie (Chris) Bradford, Dr. Brian (Dr. Lauri) Lopp and Eric (Dennis) Lopp; five grandchildren: Greta, Stella and Hugo Lopp, Brenna Gauld, and Brooke McCoy. One great grandchild: Jacob Gauld.
Becky requested cremation and that she be scattered in beautiful blue water as her family continues her passion to travel the world. Services will be private with family. In lieu of flowers, she requested tribute donations to the Alzheimer’s Association
