Vernetta Gabern, 87, Corona

Vernetta Mae (Crowe) Gabern, 87, died peacefully on the morning of August 28, 2022, in Corona. Born August 10, 1935, Vernetta was a life-long resident of Southeast Kansas who devoted her entire life to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was a member of the RLDS Church. She worked at Delletters in Pittsburg, until she retired early due to medical complications from a stroke.

Vernetta had a knack for sewing and quilting. Each year, up until her stroke, she would handmake many quilts for her family, friends, and those in the community. She would hand stitch each pattern before quilting it, in the quilt shop her loving husband built for her in the early 90’s.

Vernetta and George Antone Gabern, were united in marriage May 31, 1952. He was affectionately known as “Bull” to his family and friends. He preceded Vernetta suddenly December 15, 1988.

Vernetta was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Shaw (R.S.) and Glessie Crowe, her brothers Don Crowe and Leonard Crowe, her son, Ricky Dale Gabern and her daughter, Brenda Lea Hale.

Vernetta is survived by her sisters Levetta “Betty” Fitz (Johnny), Cheryl Kruse (Steve) and her brother Lowell Crowe (Mary), daughters Tonia Turner (Chuck), Sandra Jameson (Jim, deceased), 13 grandchildren including, Jayson Brazda (Ronda), Jaymes Brazda, Wesley Jameson (Stacy), Tony Jameson (Bonnie), SFC Michael Shane Brodbeck (SFC Patricia), Cori Silliman (Mike Glywa), Lynsey McMinn (Dustin), Jesse Gabern, Beth Gabern (Chris Summit), Ricky Gabern Jr., Roxanna Stewart (Caleb), Sarah Hale (Britney), Charley Hale (Meredith), 34 great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Vernetta’s ability to give back to her family was one thing to be admired and her legacy and example will live on through many generations to come.

Graveside service will be held September 24, at 3 p.m. at Crocker Cemetery, 988 K 171, Pittsburg, KS 66762. Immediately following, there will be a Celebration of Life at Weir Baptist Camp, 1148 NE HWY 103, Weir, KS 66781. Condolences may be left at www.bathnaylor. com.
