Galena B slips past Columbus

The Galena combined seventh and eighth grade girls basketball team edged the Columbus Junior High combined team, 16-14, in season opening action, Tuesday, at the high school gymnasium. The Lady Bulldogs doubled their score in the fourth quarter to slip past their hosts.

Youth soccer final games Saturday

The Columbus Youth Soccer League is nearing the end of their season. Optic Communication and Randy’s Automotive were big winner in the three- and four-year-old division while Calibrated/ Folder Express edged Mercy Hospital Columbus in a 3-1 contest. Final games will be tomorrow at Eddington Park.

Colgan wins Class 2A Sub-State title

The St. Mary’s-Colgan Lady Panthers secured their spot in the Kansas Class 2A State Volleyball State Championship by winning the sub-state title, Saturday, at Erie. The Lady Panthers began the tournament as the favored, 2021 sub-state champion and number one seed, with a 20-16 season record.

Riverton repeats at 3A champs

The Riverton Lady Rams earned their third consecutive Kansas Class 3A Sub-State title in a threepeat performance, Saturday, in Frontenac. The reigning sub-state champions moved to 37-2 on their season, cruising to the title in three, two-set matches in the tournament.

Lady Titans season ends at sub-state

The Columbus Lady Titans ended their season at the Kansas Class 3A Volleyball Sub-State in Frontenac, Saturday. The Lady Titans were seeded sixth in the tournament with a 13-23 record.

Week 8 Football Contest results

Two CNC League Teams claimed district championships in week eight match ups. Girard completed their second consecutive undefeated season and claimed backto- back Kansas Class 3A, District 2 Championships with a 41-18 win over Burlington.

Titan of the Week

Titan Senior, Cole Minor, had a blocked punt and a receiving touchdown in the Columbus win over Parsons, 30-6, Friday night at Titan Stadium. He is being recognized as Titan of the Week.

CJHS Girl’s Basketball home opener today

The Columbus Junior High School Girls’s Basketball Team opens their 2022 schedule today at the Central School Gyms. Galena is first up on the Lady Titan schedule with a 4:30 p.m. start. Columbus will travel to Baxter Springs, November 1 for their first road trip of the season.

Titans sink Vikings, take third in Kansas Class 3A, District 1

The Columbus Titan Football Team capped their regular season with a big, Kansas Class 3A, District 1 win over Parson, 30-6, Friday, at Titan Stadium. The win earned Columbus a third place finish in district standings behind Galena who slipped past Frontenac, 14-13, in the district championship.

Week 8 Football Contest results

The Kansas State High School Activities Association Football State Playoffs begin Friday with bi-district contests in Class 3A. Four CNC League Teams have earned a spot in the 3A state bracket. Galena (district one) and Girard (district two) are number one seeds.
