Goats, sheep earn participants championship accolades

First year 4-Her Samuel King’s hard work this summer paid off when he was named grand champion junior showman for the 2022 Cherokee County Goat show, Thursday, July 28.Showing her market goat is Case Capron. She was awarded a Reserve Champion ribbon.

4-H, Future Farmers swine classes results announced

Results have been announced in the 4-H and Future Farmers of America swine classes. Wyatt Alexander, Spring Valley Sparklers, received a second placing and a blue ribbon in Market Hog. He received a blue ribbon in both Market Ultrasound and Senior Fitting and Showing.

Titans of the Week

Jade Fouts received the Ernest Vaughn Scholarship for $250 and the Callee Henson Memorial Scholarship for $500 during the Columbus Unified High School Senior Awards Ceremony, May 14, in the gymnasium, prior to graduation.

Results announced in 2022 4-H, FFA poultry classes

The results have been posted in the 4-H/Future Farmers of America Poultry classes. Beckett Asher, Lone Elm Beavers, was Grand Champion in Broiler Class and in Junior Fitting and Showing. He was the Reserve Champion in Broiler Class.

Democrat fundraiser Thursday in Riverton

This month The Cherokee County Democrats will be meeting at the Old Riverton Post office Thursday August 11 at 6:30 p.m. There will be a small fund raiser of pasta and salad dinner it will be a free will offering. The party will be giving door prizes to some lucky attendees.

Titans of the Week

Hannah Daniels received the Colterie Scholarship for $200 in addition to two other local scholarships previously published and three Pittsburg State University scholarships. A $3,000 Music Scholarship in Band; a $1,000 Robert Crain LaForte Scholarship; and a $700 Gibson Brunson Scholarship.

Labette Community College Scholarship Award Winners

Archer Dobkins received a $4,448 Presidential Academic Scholarship and a $350 Cardinal Scholarship from Labette Community College during the 2022 Senior Awards Ceremony prior to graduation, May 14 at the CUHS Gym.

‘Be fabZOOlous’ blood drive Monday

You otter give blood. The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks, the sole supplier of blood, platelets, and plasma to patients at 44 area healthcare facilities, urges donors to help increase the blood supply during the Be fab-ZOOlous blood drive.

The Columbus Public Library will be open to the public, with a five person limit. Mondays 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday 9 a.m-6 p.m. Thursdays 9 a.m.-6 a.m. Fridays 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays 10 a.m.-noon. Curbside service will be available upon request.

Fair Buddies is popular event at Cherokee County Fair

Fair Buddies are youngsters who are not showing at the fair teaming up with the experienced 4-H members who have shown their animals. Those winning medals are with their 4-H members Colt Gregory with Sawyer Gregory and Mya Hamilton.
