The yearbook and community service class of Michelle Mosler collected snack items to send to local soldiers serving overseas. Along with the items they also wrote letters to different soldiers. Over 1,000 items were collected.

Girl Scouts in Cherokee County spent the weekend of April 29-May 1 camping out at the American Legion Fairgrounds in Columbus. The theme of the weekend was Be Prepared Not Scared. Girls ranged in age from kindergarten through high school.

Businesses depend on tourism

Tourism is Economic Development, although many people do not look at it in that way. Many of our local businesses are dependent on tourism, it keeps their business door open The average visitor to our community will spend $150 per day (hotel, food, gas).

The Columbus Day committee is now accepting 2022 vendor space applications. Several food and craft vendors have already registered. The one thing it tells us is that vendors are ready to get out and participate in festivals.
