Record high temperature on Christmas Day

Never before in history has the temperature on Christmas Day been 77 degrees in Columbus. It was also the highest temperature ever recorded in December the previous high was 72 degrees.The low temperature on Christmas was 59 which was also a record high for the lowest temperature.

Post office reports break-ins

Multiple break-ins have occurred at the Columbus Post office in recent weeks, according to Kyle Clark Columbus Chief of Police.The post office in Columbus has been broken into at least twice in the last two months with post office boxes being broken into and mail removed.

Baxter Chamber elects new officers

The Baxter Springs Chamber of Commerce has elected new officers and invites potential members to their monthly coffee.The new officers include Dale Helwig, Holly Johnson, Ben Kerr, Pamela Mitchell, Sara Comer, Jennifer Burton, Michele Rickman, Shane Dotson, Jim Case, John Terry and Angie Pearce.

Cherokee County Jail Report

Carolyn Ann Blanchard, 70, was arrested Sunday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of domestic battery; knowing or reckless bodily harm and is being held in lieu of $445 bail.
