Citizen disputes county right of way

A citizen contacted Commissioner Jack Garner to complain about a neighbor’s fence being on the county road right -of-way.Dr. Corey Bates, a veterinarian, said he recently bought a property in Cherokee County which he fenced. He built a fence on the survey line that was made in the property purchase.

USD 247 votes to close building

The Weir elementary school building is destined to be demolished following action by the USD 247 Board of Education last week.The board voted to keep the structure for the remainder of 2025-26 school year.

Baxter Springs to offer after school meals

Shortly after students return to school in Baxter Springs follow the holiday break, a new program will begin.The students will be offered a free “super snack/ supper” which will be available starting Wednesday January 7.

Trash collection will change for holiday

Columbus City offices will close at noon on Wednesday, December 24 and remain closed through Christmas Day. They will re-open with normal hours on Friday, December 26.If your garbage is normally collected on Thursdays or Fridays the city will collect it on Friday, December 26.

Labette County Jail Report

Angel Gabriel Palma, 20, was arrested Tuesday by Oswego Police officers on charges of theft by deception, identity theft and criminal use of a financial card and is being held without bail.
