History revealed in arrowheads

Walking the fields of Kansas, and the neighboring states, searching for arrowheads has been a lifelong obsession of Janet Hand.Her program at a recent Genealogical Society meeting gave those attending a real insight into the history of the nomadic bands who roamed the area for centuries.

Dragline to be moved to Franklin

The historic Page 618 Walking Dragline is officially headed to its new home. Thanks to Tilton and Sons Housemoving, Inc., Phase 1 of the relocation is scheduled to begin December 4—a fitting date, as it marks the Feast Day of Saint Barbara, the patron saint of miners.

Final football contest winners announced

In the season’s final football contest, the top two winners were previously first place winners as Carolyn Eddington and Mike Ellis took first and second place this week. Carolyn missed one game and Mike missed two. They both missed Nemaha Central’s victory over Southeast of Saline.

Christmas parades kick off Wednesday

The Christmas season is underway with Columbus’ celebrations starting Wednesday, December 3 with the festivities beginning at 5 p.m.Find the elf contest will be held 5 p.m.-6:45 p.m. Search for the elves around town. Turn in completed elf sheet at Labette Bank by 6:45 p.m.

DeAnn Hill named BHS Hometown Hero

Recognizing her lifelong commitment to community service DeAnn Auman Hill was recognized by Baxter Springs on Monday as she was named the 2025 Hometown Hero.The recognition program was held in the Baxter Springs High School with former Congressman Jake LaTurner as the keynote speaker.
