Area mail carriers will collect food

Letter carriers across the country will collect nonperishable food donations Saturday, May 9, as part of the National Association of Letter Carriers’ annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.Post offices throughout Cherokee County will be participating again this year.

Five-year farm bill expands subsidies

The three Republicans and one Democrat representing Kansas in the U.S. House voted Thursday for a five-year farm bill expanding federal subsidies to crop producers and reducing food aid programs for low-income families.The legislation advanced 224-200 with support of U.S. Reps.
