Cowtown Days in Baxter Springs begins tonight (Friday, May 1).The event will be held on and around the grounds of the Johnston Public Library beginning at 6 p.m. Cowtown Idol will be the opening act (open to the first 10 people to register by 4:45 p.m.

Genealogy CornerDecember 13, 1916 started out as a typical Wednesday morning when about one hundred men went to work at Mayer Mine No. 9, which was located about two and a half miles northeast of East Mineral or about one-half of a mile north of Stone City in Cherokee County.
Sunday nights storms did considerable damage to locations in and around Hallowell and Sherwin. At least one building was demolished and a grain bin sustained severe damage.
