As part of the Columbus Day Festival and Hot Air Balloon Regatta, Liberty is giving away free trees to customers while supplies last. Customers can register for a free three-gallon potted tree beginning now and can pick up the tree at the event. Trees are available while supplies last.

Chalk artists wanted for new CDF contest

Artists of all ages are invited to a new event for the Columbus Day Festival. The Sidewalk Chalk Challenge will take place on the sidewalk from Kansas and Maple (on the south side of the street) to the front of Maple Uncommon Guest House and Gallery.

Thanks to the Columbus Public Library, the Quilt Show will once again be held during the Columbus Day Festival. Most every family has a quilt that has been handed down through generations. It’s put on a shelf or wrapped for protection and put away.

Farm Heritage event moves downtown

The Farm Heritage Show (formally known as the tractor show), will be moving to the downtown area for the 2022 Columbus Day Festival, thanks to Keith Karsten and Harold Depenbush and their committee members. The Farm Heritage Show will be held on East Pine down from the intersection of Kansas.

A Columbus Day favorite returns to the First United Methodist Church, Saturday, October 8. Pancakes, whole hog sausage, biscuits and gravy along with coffee, juice or milk will be served between 7 a.m. -9:30 a.m. for an $8 donation. Proceeds will be used for the summer lunch program.

Michael Carpino and Lynn Grant were united in marriage September 12, 1992 at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon. They recently celebrated their 30th Anniversary. Both are graduates of Columbus Unified High School. Mike in 1984 and Lynn in 1987.

An evening of Gospel music is planned at the Crestline First Baptist Church, 657 Southeast Highway 69A. Crestline FBC will host The Crusaders Saturday, September 10 at 6 p.m. The Joplin area singers present a program of traditional Southern Gospel Music.
