Trojans hand Titans first CNC loss

Errors and empty atbats resulted in the first CNC League loss for the Columbus Titan Baseball Team in the first game of a double header split with Girard, Friday night at Bomber Field. The 13-2, Titans committed four errors and had 13 strike outs in the weather delayed, 3-5, loss.
The SEK Spikes 14U Baseball Team, based out of Baxter Springs, won their division at the Seventh Annual Joe Pat Skye Memorial Tournament held at the Field of Dreams Complex in Baxter Springs. SEK Spikes win Joe Pat Skye Memorial Tournament

The Seventh Annual Joe Pat Skye Tournament was played at the Field of Dreams on Sunday, April 30. The hometown SEK Spikes won the 14U division and the Hogs won the 12U division. The tournament began with opening ceremonies including Skye’s grandson, Nixon Westervelt throwing out the first pitch.
Titan Senior, Kayden Cox, earned the, 6-3, win over the Girard Trojans, Friday, at Bomber Field. Kayden pitched two inning in the win at Labette County earlier in the season and picked up a win at St. Mary’s-Colgan, April 24.

Frontenac allows one run in sweep

Frontenac made quick work of the Lady Lions of Baxter Springs, Monday in Frontenac. Sophomore pitcher, Avery Johnson, allowed five base hits in the 6-1 opener. She allowed only 20 Lady Lions to the plate over six innings in the second game.

MLB Pitch Hit Run set for Saturday

USA Softball of Kansas in association with Major League Baseball is hosting a MLB Pitch, Hit, and Run event, Saturday, at the Community Field Ballpark. All baseball and softball players ages seven-14 are encouraged to come out and test their talents, 10 a.m. to noon.

Titan Senior, Kaden Cox, knocked in ten RBIs, and was the winning pitcher in game two of the CNC League sweep over St. Mary’s-Colgan, 11-2 and 13-3, May 24, at Pittsburg’s Jaycee Ballpark. Columbus scored early and often in the game one win.

Senior, Maddie Buergin and sophomore, Carter Henry represented the Columbus Unified High School Track and Field Team at the Girard Optimist Meet, Friday, in Girard. Maddie placed fourth in the pole vault event and Carter was fifth in the discus.

Titan Golf third in CNC standings

The Titan Golf Team has two CNC League tournaments remaining on their regular season schedule. Today the team is in Girard for a 3 p.m. tee time. Wednesday, May 10, the CNC finale will be held in Galena beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Titan Senior, Kayden Cox, knocked 10 RBIs and earned the win on the mound for Columbus in the two-game sweep of the St. Mary’s-Colgan Panthers, April 24. He is being recognized as Titan of the Week. Kayden picked up four Runs-Batted-In on three hits in five at-bats during the game one, 11-2, win.

Seventh Grade Lions second at CCCJL

The Baxter Springs Boys Seventh Grade Track and Field Team took second place at the CCCJL Meet, Tuesday, in Frontenac. The junior Lions scored 96 points behind St. Mary’s-Colgan in first place with 102 team points.

Simpson sets three records in finale

Levi Simpson went out on top of the record books in his final CCCJL Track and Field Meet, Tuesday, in Frontenac. The Columbus Junior High Eighth Grader set new marks in the 800 Meter Run and the 1600M run earlier in the season and eclipsed those records with a sub-five-minute mile time of 4:58.
