Christmas elf hunt returns

Columbus Chamber of Commerce is bringing the Elf Hunt back to the Christmas celebration December 1.
Five elves will be hidden downtown. Write down where you see them for a chance to win a special prize.
Entry forms can be picked up from the Labette Bank table near the fire department grill.

Large turnout for Riverton Elementary School carnival

Families of Riverton students gathered in the school for a night dedicated to celebrating their achievements.
Thirty-four children from pre-K through fifth grade managed to raise $6,700 for Riverton’s PTO program, earning the community a school carnival on Saturday evening.

American Bank donates to Baxter food pantry

Each year in November, the American Bank collects non-perishable items.
They also do a quarterly fundraiser called Jeans for a Cause where the employees of the bank can wear jeans on Mondays when they donate $2.

Area students named to LCC Phi Theta Kappa

The Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Labette Community College inducted new members into the Tau Theta Chapter Thursday, November 18.
Students are invited to join the International Honor Society of the Two Year College, Phi Theta Kappa, if they have completed 12 hours and earned at least a 3.

Recently students at Central Elementary School in Baxter Springs were asked by their principal, Kevin Wade to write essays on how to show thankfulness to veterans. The winning essays are being printed here.

Community members, students assemble Thanksgiving food boxes

All hands were on deck Monday morning as Columbus Unified High School students and other community members assembled Thanksgiving food baskets. The baskets were distributed Tuesday afternoon.
Anna Head was moving boxes of peanut butter Monday morning.
