The Columbus Public Library will be open to the public, with a five person limit. Mondays 9 p.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursdays 8 a.m.-11 a.m. Wednesdays 10 a.m.-2 p.m. By appointment only. Thursdays 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Fridays 9 a.m.-noon. Saturdays 10 a.m.-noon.

Festa Italiana returns

After having to make changes to last year’s Festa Italiana event amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the community is preparing to bring back the traditional celebration of Frontenac’s Italian cultural heritage this weekend. Gates open for this year’s event at 4:45 p.m.

Baxter Springs PEO sponsors business decorating contest

In an effort to make the city of Baxter Springs look welcoming to fall visitors, the women of the Baxter Springs P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) instituted a contest for local businesses. Many businesses took part in the contest displaying arrangements of fall décor.

Columbus Day Festival schedule of events

Friday, October 8 Scarecrow Contest: scarecrows will be on the North side of the square and East on Maple St. Prizes will be given for two places. Contest is open to businesses, organizations and individuals. Scarecrows must be in place by noon, today.

Seven youngsters compete to be Little Mister, Miss Columbus

The 2021 Little Mr. and Miss Columbus will be crowned the evening of October 8, on the Cherokee County courthouse steps around 5:30 p.m. during the Columbus Day Festival Bean Feed, sponsored by Commerce Bank. Labette Bank is handling the Little Mr. and Miss Columbus crowning.
