Hannah Andrews is May Lion of the month

In addition to being an active member of LEO Club, Hannah Andrews, May’s Lion of the Month, has a variety of other pursuits. Andrews has been in Spanish Club, Health Occupation Students of America, Tri-M, Chem Club and Chess Club.

Columbus Central Fifth Grade students had a fun day at Big Brutus Park with inflatable bouncy houses and games in addition to visiting Southeast Kansas biggest tourist attraction.

June is business appreciation month

June is Kansas Business and Industry Appreciation Month; the month we honor the hard-working Kansans who enhance the economy of our state and the community of Columbus. The Columbus Chamber is urging all citizens to join in this important observance and salute local businesses in Columbus.

Claythorne Lodge will host US Open Clay shoot

The week of June 7 – 13, the community will see a lot more visitors in the community. Claythorne Lodge will be hosting the US Open Shoot (National Sporting Clays Association). At present, there are over 1,100 shooters registered in events from youth to seniors, men and women.

The Columbus Public Library will be open to the public, with a five person limit. Mondays 9 p.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursdays 8 a.m.-11 a.m. Wednesdays 10 a.m.-2 p.m. By appointment only. Thursdays 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Fridays 9 a.m.-noon. Saturdays 10 a.m.-noon.

Dessert auction helps church youth attend summer camp

Eager bidders donate hundreds of dollars for pies, cakes and cookies at the Grace Community Church of Riverton Pie and Cake Auction. Every year the church serves a meal of fish and pheasant with the desserts auctioned off afterwards.

Tyree selected to attend cadet academy

This is the first year The Kansas American Legion Post #206 has sponsored a student to attend the Cadet Law Enforcement Academy. Liam Tyree, a sophomore from Riverton High school has received this honor. Liam was chosen for his ambition to go into Law Enforcement.

USD 493 Elementary Track Friday

The Columbus USD 493 Elementary Track and Field Meet will be held Friday at the Central School Track. All grades, kindergarten through sixth will participate in the event. Grades 4-6 will start things off at 10 a.m.
