Twenty-four hour service seven days a week can be found at Pete’s Convenience Store and gas station in Baxter Springs. The station has been open for around six years and has been members of the Baxter Chamber of commerce during that time.

Chairman Moates called the regular session of the Cherokee County Commission to order at 9 a.m. Monday, April 19, 2021, in room #109 of the Cherokee County Courthouse located at 110 West Maple, Columbus, Kansas. Commissioner Johnson opened with all Standing in Prayer to Father God the Creator.

Barbecue chefs’ creations feed hungry Cowtown Days crowd

A large crowd turned out for the Cowtown Days celebration in Baxter springs Friday, April 30 and Saturday, May 1. The event kicked off Friday night with the Cowtown Idol competition. Fair weather provided those in attendance with a pleasant musical experience.

Campbell named Governor’s Scholar

A Columbus Unified High School student has been named a Governor’s Scholar. Avery Campbell, daughter of Todd and Susan Campbell, granddaughter of Bob and Mary Soper and Craig and Gail Campbell, of Columbus has been recognized by Kansas Governor Laura Kelly as a 2021 Kansas Governor’s Scholar.

Area students match moves in Columbus chess tournament

Two youngsters practiced prior to the start of the Pro-Am Chess tournament held at the Columbus American Legion Post Home. The tournament officials said they would like to make the Post Home a regular venue for their tournaments.

Sharp is May member of month

May’s 4-H member of the month is Airauna Sharp. Sharp is 12 years old and a sixth grader at Central Junior High in Columbus. This is her third year in 4-H. She is a member of the Spring Valley Sparklers and has held the position of reporter in the past.
