A large crowd turned out for the Cowtown Days celebration in Baxter springs Friday, April 30 and Saturday, May 1. The event kicked off Friday night with the Cowtown Idol competition. Fair weather provided those in attendance with a pleasant musical experience.

A Columbus Unified High School student has been named a Governor’s Scholar. Avery Campbell, daughter of Todd and Susan Campbell, granddaughter of Bob and Mary Soper and Craig and Gail Campbell, of Columbus has been recognized by Kansas Governor Laura Kelly as a 2021 Kansas Governor’s Scholar.

May’s 4-H member of the month is Airauna Sharp. Sharp is 12 years old and a sixth grader at Central Junior High in Columbus. This is her third year in 4-H. She is a member of the Spring Valley Sparklers and has held the position of reporter in the past.
