WSU announces Dean’s honor rolls

Wichita State University has announced the dean’s honor roll for fall 2022. Students from Columbus named to the list include Sydney R. Abram, Shelsie M. Moyer, Talyn L. Perry, Emily A. Peterson, Charley J. Riker and Kristin A. Smith. Peyton Q. Herrenbruck from Baxter Springs and Camryn P.

Asher leads 4-H poultry project

It takes a lot of volunteers to make Cherokee County 4-H run smoothly. One of those is the leader of the Poultry project Constance Asher. Asher has over 20 years of experience working with poultry. She has a love of birds and enjoys teaching others about this project.

Wichita State announces graduates

Wichita State University has announced the fall 2022 graduates. Shelsie M. Moyer, of Columbus, received her Bachelor of Arts in Education, ECU/Elementary Educ Apprentice, Magna Cum Laude. Undergraduate students who have attained a grade point average of 3.9 out of a possible 4.

Fry to celebrate milestone birthday

A come and go reception will be held for Joe Fry March 11. Fry, a life-long resident of Melrose will be celebrating his 90th birthday. The reception will be held from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church, 1124 Kansas Ave. in Baxter Springs.

Central names students of the month

Five Central students were recognized as students of the month for February. Among those recognized was Mae Epler. Teachers said Epler is a hard worker, is kind to others and always willing to help both in and out of the classroom.

Holt recognized as March 4-H member

Cherokee County 4-H has announced their March member of the month. Eleven-year-old Gentry Holt has been selected for the honor. Holt is a fifth-grade student at Central Elementary School in Columbus. He is in the gifted program and participates in Boy Scouts.

Mercy Auxiliary reschedules fundraiser, attends ground breaking

It was decided to postpone the Columbus Mercy Auxiliary fundraiser luncheon during the February 21 meeting. The meeting opened with members repeating the flag salute followed by Vice-President, Mary Brumback reciting the Auxiliary prayer. Sixteen members answered roll call.

Scottish Rite meeting planned Thursday

All members of the Valley of Southeast Kansas Lodge of Perfection are asked to attend the Stated Dinner and Meeting Thursday, March 2 at the Armstrong Masonic Lodge, 3105 North Joplin Street, Pittsburg. Social Hour begins at 5:30 p.m. Dinner will be at 6:30 p.m.

KU announces honor roll students

The University of Kansas has announced their honor students for fall 2022.
