It takes a lot of volunteers to make Cherokee County 4-H run smoothly. One of those is the leader of the Poultry project Constance Asher. Asher has over 20 years of experience working with poultry. She has a love of birds and enjoys teaching others about this project.

Five Central students were recognized as students of the month for February. Among those recognized was Mae Epler. Teachers said Epler is a hard worker, is kind to others and always willing to help both in and out of the classroom.

Cherokee County 4-H has announced their March member of the month. Eleven-year-old Gentry Holt has been selected for the honor. Holt is a fifth-grade student at Central Elementary School in Columbus. He is in the gifted program and participates in Boy Scouts.

It was decided to postpone the Columbus Mercy Auxiliary fundraiser luncheon during the February 21 meeting. The meeting opened with members repeating the flag salute followed by Vice-President, Mary Brumback reciting the Auxiliary prayer. Sixteen members answered roll call.

All members of the Valley of Southeast Kansas Lodge of Perfection are asked to attend the Stated Dinner and Meeting Thursday, March 2 at the Armstrong Masonic Lodge, 3105 North Joplin Street, Pittsburg. Social Hour begins at 5:30 p.m. Dinner will be at 6:30 p.m.
