The Titan Jazz Band Seniors were a big part of the recent Philli-Lov Production of 80’s What a Feeling. They are being recognized as Titans of the Week.Piper Hayes opened the night with the headline song that spent six weeks at number one on the Billoard Hot 100 from the 1983 film, Flashdance.

Finding traces of human history is always an exciting experience. There’s something extra special, about discovering a site or artifact. Janet Hand has spent hours in the fields and along creek beds looking at the ground for prehistoric tools or Native American arrowheads. (Above) is a portion of her collection including both tools and hunting items. (At right) Janet holds the head of a tomahawk which was found on the farm of Floyd Lyerla near Crestline in Cherokee County.

Walking the fields of Kansas, and the neighboring states, searching for arrowheads has been a lifelong obsession of Janet Hand.Her program at a recent Genealogical Society meeting gave those attending a real insight into the history of the nomadic bands who roamed the area for centuries.

Dragline to be moved to Franklin

The historic Page 618 Walking Dragline is officially headed to its new home. Thanks to Tilton and Sons Housemoving, Inc., Phase 1 of the relocation is scheduled to begin December 4—a fitting date, as it marks the Feast Day of Saint Barbara, the patron saint of miners.

Final football contest winners announced

In the season’s final football contest, the top two winners were previously first place winners as Carolyn Eddington and Mike Ellis took first and second place this week. Carolyn missed one game and Mike missed two. They both missed Nemaha Central’s victory over Southeast of Saline.

Columbus Lions Club members harvested a tree for the Courthouse on Sunday afternoon. With help from the Fire Department, the tree was raised in place and decorated. Lights were strung on the tree by Lions Club members.
