Former mayor, last living county WWII vet dies

The last remaining World War II veteran in Cherokee County died Tuesday at Columbus Medicalodges. Former Columbus Mayor David E. Martin, 98, a lifelong county resident was on a ship heading for Japan when the war ended.

City Hall closed

The Columbus City Hall has been closed since Wednesday of this week allowing the city employees time to work on restore the water, sewer and trash billing system.City Clerk Ruth Hutley asked the Council for permission to close the office in an effort to get the billing out as soon as possible.
