Arrowhead presentation at Genealogy

Because of Thanksgiving being so close to the fourth Tuesday, the board has decided to move the genealogy meeting up to Tuesday, November 18, at 6:30 p.m..The speaker, Janet Hand will bring her extensive arrowhead collection to that meeting.

4-H Council gets building grant

A $5,000 grant was recently received by the Cherokee County 4-H Council from Heartland Rural Electric Cooperative to improve the 4-H Building in Columbus.The grant funded replacement of original 1991 windows as part of an ongoing renovation project to improve the facility’s energy efficiency.

Teen injured in accident

A Columbus High School Junior, Quinn Lloyd was thrown from a car hood on Thursday October 30 at approximately 4:25 p.m.Officers with the Columbus Police Department and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the 100 block of North Highland Avenue for a juvenile who had been found unconscious.

Football contest winners

The first week of state football playoffs resulted in an easy pick for the local football contest participants.Every home team except Wellsville won, because KHSAA gave the home field advantage to the team with the best record and pitted them against the team with the worst record in their division.

Chapter BT of PEO celebrates fall

A fall and Halloween theme decorated the tables at the Chapter BT of P.E.O. International meeting at 6 p.m. October 20. The meeting was held in the Fellowship Hall of the United Methodist Church in Baxter Springs. Members were served apple pie topped with ice cream and pumpkin cake.
