Five year contract to city administrator

A new five-year contract was offered to City Administrator Jake Letner and accepted at the Monday night regular meeting of the Columbus City council.Letner said after the meeting he was very happy with the new contract and said the city employees have made working in Columbus a pleasure.

Football contest

The winners of the football contest are again family members. This week it is the Bass Family sweeping first and second place. They tied as both picked Southeast to beat Pleasanton. Randy Bass took first place with his tie breaker guess of 28, while his sister, Shirley Redd, was second.

This year there was a big year for scarecrows during the Columbus Day Festival and the competition was certainly tough. The winner was (at right) Security First Title. Second place was Clover Buds 4-H (which will be featured Friday.

Cherokee County Jail Report

Jeffery Leroy Carpenter, 42, was arrested Wednesday by Bureau of Indian Affairs on charges of aggravated violation of offender registration act and is being held without bail.

Suspect arrested for vehicle burglary

Just before 4 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8, officers with the Columbus Police Department were dispatched to the 300 block of West Elm Street for a reported vehicle burglary in progress.

Disturbance in front of the court house leads to mother, daughter arrest.Thursday, October 9 just after 10 a.m., officers with the Columbus Police Department were dispatched to a physical disturbance in progress in directly in front of the Cherokee County Court House.

Celebrate Columbus Day weekend

If you enjoy tractor pulls, Saturday and Sunday will be filled with action. Saturday will feature antiques and Sunday will be Mini Rods and Garden tractors. Saturday the pull begins at 2 p.m. and will include light and heavy steel. Sunday’s pull begins at 1 p.m.
