A surprisingly large number of local land owners overflowed the courthouse basement Wednesday at the regular meeting of the Cherokee County Planning Commission.

Reenactment scheduled this weekend

The 162nd anniversary of Quantrill’s Attack on Fort Blair will again be held on the grounds of the Baxter Springs Heritage Center and Museum.This year the event features on Saturday at 3 p.m. “Bloody Dawn” a docudrama on Quantrill’s Raid on Lawrence to be shown inside the Museum.

Meetings set by planning commission

Open public meetings have been set by the Cherokee County Planning Commission to help build the comprehensive plan.The meetings are scheduled for October 27 in the Columbus Community Room 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., October 28 at Grace Community Church in Riverton 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A program about Easterseals was presented at the PEO Sisterhood Chapter BT of P.E.O. International at 6 p.m. September 15 in the Fellowship Hall of the United Methodist Church in Baxter Springs. Members were served a cake by hostesses Kathryn Aupperle and Mary Beth Smith.
