County planning commission September 3 meeting minutes

ConveneChairman Brett Warstler began the meeting with an opening prayer. He then called the meeting of the Cherokee County Planning Commission (the Commission) to order at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 in the break room of the Cherokee County Courthouse.

Real Estate transfers

Carl H. Mussa and Tracey M. Mussa Trust, Weir, conveyed a deed to the property legally described as Lot One, Block One, West Weir, to Seth Stewart and Kimberly Stewart, Weir. The deed was recorded September 5, 2025.

Cherokee County Jail Report

Damien Faron Burris, 23, was arrested Saturday by Baxter Springs Police officers on charges of failure to appear and was released on $700 bail.Rebecca Hayes Brown, 22, was arrested Saturday by Quapaw Marshals on charges of driving under the influence and is being held in lieu of $1,500 bail.

Football contest

For the second straight week the Eddington family have been winners in the Columbus Merchants Football contest. This week Carolyn Eddington was tied with Megan Kirk for first place. The tiebreaker gave the first place to Eddington and second to Kirk. Earl Eddington was third.

Columbus Day balloon regatta

The 56th annual Columbus Day Festival and the 36th year of the Balloon Regatta will kick-off Friday evening with the annual bean feed.It was the bean feed that started it all in 1968 when the Distributive Class at Columbus High School wanted to do something to celebrate the town’s namesake.

Battle of Baxter Springs reenactment held

The semi-annual remembrance of the Civil War Battle of Baxter Springs, was held Saturday and Sunday on the Heritage Center grounds surrounding the Visitors Center and Museum.
