Farm heritage show will display machinery

Register early for car show, 5K

If you plan to participate in the Official Columbus Day Car Show, preregistration is available for $12 through Becky at Real Pro Reality or at the Chamber office. On the day of the event, registration will cost $15. The car show is scheduled to take place on the downtown square Saturday, October 11.

Former superintendent speaks about schools

Retired Superintendent of Columbus USD493 Dr. Brian Smith spoke to a group at the Galena City Hall community Thursday evening. The meeting was under the auspices of the Democrat Party but was open to anyone interested in the local educational system.

Sesquicentennial draws large turnout

Nothing draws a crowd like the availability of free food, and for the past 90 years that has been the major drawing card of the Weir Homecoming. This year however, an added attraction was the 150 birthday of the community.

Fourth annual suicide prevention walk Sunday

The community is invited to join local families and community partners on Sunday, September 21 for the Fourth Annual Suicide Prevention Awareness Walk sponsored by Spring River Mental Health and Wellness (SRMHW). Gather at 5:30 p.m.

Football contest winners announced

The second week of the Columbus Merchants Football Contest saw somewhat better results as the winners picked the more difficult games.This week’s top entry came from Megan Kirk, the third place finisher in the opening week contest. She scored 75 out of a possible 105 points.

Trustee, treasurer’s offices open in Lowell Township

Both the Trustee and Treasurer’s positions are open in Lowell Township since the death of Trustee Lee Howard. His wife Sena Kay Howard, has resigned the Treasurer’s position.The two open positions will need to be filled by the County Commissioners.

Lady Lancers fall in home quadrangular

The Southeast Lady Lancer Volleyball Team was shut out in their home quadrangular tournament September 4 in Cherokee. The host team fell in two sets to Baxter Springs 8-25; 14-25; Riverton 6-25; 1625; and Erie 15-25; 16-25.
