Error in program time

There was an error in the City of Columbus newsletter inserted in the monthly utility bills.It was listed the Columbus Library “Digital World Event” would be held on Friday, September 8 instead of Monday, September 8.

Oops...

Due to a typographical error, the total budget number for the City of Columbus was mistakenly published in an earlier edition of the News-Report.The City proposed budget is $6,639,291 not $16,639,291 as published on the front page of the Friday, August 15 edition of the News-Report.

Mazurek appointed 11th District judge

Governor Laura Kelly appointed John Mazurek of Pittsburg to a judgeship position in the 11th Judicial District. The vacancy was created by the appointment of Judge Lori Bolton Fleming to the Kansas Court of Appeals.

Mondays 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday 9 a.m-6 p.m. Thursdays 9 a.m.-6 a.m. Fridays 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. Saturdays 10 a.m.-noon.Curbside service will be available upon request.

Dog show winners presented ribbons

Results have been announced in the 4-H, FFA, and Heritage Youth Association dog classes. The judge was Sue Badget with superintendents Anne E. Sharp and Kara Alexander with committee member Josephine Elliott. Senior ages 14-18 Grand Champion Showmanship was Airauna Sharp Spring Valley Sparklers.

Results have been announced in the 4-H, FFA and Heritage Youth Association poultry classes. The judge was Shawn Pryor with superintendents Rosie Heistand and Kristen Shepard.Senior ages 14-18 Grand Showmanship sponsored by Van and Tara Underwood went to Oasis Wade Spring Valley Sparklers.

Real Estate transfers

Rock Solid Family Properties LLC, Columbus, conveyed a deed to the property located at 310 East Sycamore Street, Columbus, to T4 Properties LLC, Columbus. The deed was recorded July 21, 2025.

Cherokee County Jail Report

Joshua Andrew-Caleb Hamilton, 39, was arrested Thursday by Quapaw Marshals on charges of criminal damage to property; injure or defraud, burglary; building is a dwelling and theft by deception and is being held in lieu of $4,000 bail.

Labette County Jail Report

Lori Kay Reynolds, 62, was arrested Monday by Oswego Police officers on a warrant and is being held without bail.Benjamin Jay Horton, 34, was arrested Monday by Oswego Police officers on charges of battery and two counts of endangering a child and was released on $3,148.50 bail.
