Weir Homecoming sesquicentennial

With the 150th birthday of Weir on the horizon once again David R. Wallace has been asked to prepare his presentation on the city’s history for those attending the homecoming.Wallace was born in San Diego, California to a scholarly candy-striper from Oswego and a coal miner’s son from Weir.

Clearway asks county for permission to start

A representative of Clearway Energy Group appeared before the County Commissioners on Monday asking that the commission allow his company to begin some activity in the County.

Ambulance association plans new local station

The County Ambulance Service has plans to build a new office and ambulance barn on the land north of the Cherokee County Law Enforcement Center.The County Commission was asked to provide the land to the ambulance service which they currently own.

USD 508 board makes personnel decisions

In personnel matters the Baxter Springs Board of Education approved a 2.5-percent increase for classified and administrative staff of the Baxter Springs School District daycare program.The board approved the negotiated agreement with the teachers for 20252026 as presented.

Tickets still available for ‘Walk Around Square’

Tickets are still available for the Walk Around the Square with Athena program sponsored by the Columbus Museum and the Cherokee County Genealogy and History Library.The hour long tours will be held as part of the annual Columbus Day Celebration on October 11. The tours will begin at 6:30 p.m.
