97th edition of the County Fair

The 97th edition of the Cherokee County Fair will begin Tuesday, July 15 at the American Legion Fair Grounds in Columbus.Thanks to the yearlong efforts of the American Legion, Fair Board and County Extension agents the show will once again go on.

Local guitar player opens Reunion

The entertainment Tuesday night will bring a native Columbus resident to Cherokee County Fair stage. The former Jeremy Lyons now known as Jeremiah Campfire will perform his “Campfire Guitar” music for his hometown folk.
The Columbus Fire Department recently purchased a 2014 Ford F550 Wet Rescue Apparatus from Diamond Rescue Supplies, LLC. The City Council approved the purchase in the amount pf $130,000. According to fire Chief Steve Burton the truck is gently used and equipped with a professionally built rescue box. The truck is ready for service and has 22,000 miles on it.

Two arrests for child sex crimes made

Arrests were made Wednesday in two separate cases of sex offenses against minors.The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a former Baxter Springs firefighter currently with the Coffeyville Fire Department for child sex crimes.At about 8:40 a.m.

Bullard named to honors list

Washburn University has announced its spring 2025 Dean’s List honorees.Kennedy Bullard from Columbus has been named to the list.Her parents are John and Shanel Bullard. Her grand- parents are Jim and Janice Maxwell, Delores Bullard and the late R.C. Bullard.
