Blood pressure monitors provided through grant

A grant has been received by the Cherokee County Health Department to purchase electronic blood pressure monitors for those 55 years and older.The grant came through the 2025 Columbus Area Community Foundation.

Three men who worked on or around Big Brutus on the night it was shut down and put what the owner thought would be the scrap pile, gathered Saturday at the annual Big Brutus Miners Reunion in the shadow of the big shovel. They all started in 1961.

Dr. Brian Smith, Columbus and John Archer, Baxter Springs were recently inducted into the Galena School District 499 Hall of Fame. Both of the men are well known throughout the entire county.
Cherokee County Sportsmen’s Club annual Kids Fishing Derby winners in the 10 years old to 12 years old were first place Kaden Fleshman with a 2.44 pound total catch. The “Big Fish” plaque went to Tate Godfrey and second place in the fishing tourney with a 2.32 pound bass and Phillip Turner was third with a 1.86 pound bass.
