Just across Maple Street from the High School the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is completing a reclamation project for the lead contamination found on the property.“We will be completing the project in the next week depending on the weather,” said EPA Remedial Project Manager Todd Campbell.

The committee men and women of the Cherokee County Republican Central Committee elected Taylor Brown as the new Cherokee County Clerk.Brown has been working in the County Appraiser’s office for the past five years and has lived in the county for 11 years.

A good-bye party was held in the Central School foyer in honor of Superintendent Dr. Brian Smith at the end of school. A graduate of Columbus High School he came back to the local district in 2018 following a 16 year stint at Galena.

Baxter Springs faces water issues

Residents of Baxter Springs who are customers of the city water received a notice from the city concerning an increase in the levels of disinfection byproducts in the water during the first quarter of this year.
