As the end of the school year is quickly coming into sight for my children, the end-of-year activities are beginning to ramp up. State assessments have been completed, countdowns have begun and field trips have picked up.

County graduates 269 students

Graduation season begins Saturday May 10 with two schools holding their ceremonies tomorrow with the rest of the county schools graduating the next weekend.This year there are 269 graduates which is a decrease of one from 2024.

Derfelt recognized for 50 years as funeral director

A third generation businessman was recognized for his 50 years in business.At the Annual Kansas Funeral Directors Meeting in Overland Park earlier this week, local funeral director Jerry Derfelt was honored with a plaque commemorating his 50 years of dedicated service as a licensed funeral director.

Holt hired as code enforcement officer

The new position of Code Enforcement Specialist has been created and the position filled in the City of Columbus.The city is pleased to announce the hiring of Gary Holt as its first Code Enforcement Specialist.
