Former resident’s historical novel features common names here

Author William Stoskopf was reared on the family farm in Quaker Valley east of Columbus. Bill’s mother Sara taught history at the local high school and his dad Roy was a farmer.

PEO Chapter BT learns about chair yoga

Chair yoga was the topic of the program at the Chapter BT of P.E.O. International meeting held at 6 p.m. April 21 in Fellowship Hall of the United Methodist Church in Baxter Springs.The program was presented by guest Gaylene Smith. She is a retired nurse and a member of the United Methodist Church.

Galena student to perform at Pitt State ‘Rising Stars’ concert

Three accomplished student musicians who won the Concerto Aria Competition — one from Galena, one from Neodesha, and one from Grove, Oklaho-ma — will be featured in this year’s “Rising Stars” concert by the Southeast Kansas Symphony at Pittsburg State University on Sunday, May 4.

Benjamin Allen Graham, 42, was arrested Wednesday by Columbus Police officers on charges of domestic battery; physical contact in rude manner and is being held without bail.

Coop hosts members on 75th anniversary

In recognition of their 75 years, the Cherokee County Farmers Cooperative held their annual dinner and meeting in the Columbus High School cafeteria and auditorium. The local cooperative was established in Columbus in 1950 and purchased the Baxter Springs coop in 1952.
