Release revoked for Dr. involved in hit, run

One of the suspects in the 2023 hit and run death of a Galena man was booked in to the Cherokee County Law Enforcement Center Tuesday. John Henry Joseph, 54, a Joplin, Mo., dentist, had been on pretrial release.

Route 66 bridge closed for painting

The small section of roadway that goes on the old Route 66, over the Rainbow Bridge, north of Baxter Springs is closed.The closure will permit the blast cleaning and painting in preparation of the 100th anniversary of Route 66. The bridge road will be closed until approximately March 31.

Cherokee County Deputies investigated two injury accidents Tuesday.A one vehicle accident happened near Highway 103. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a railroad crossing arm. The vehicle then overturned. The driver was extricated from the vehicle by members of the Weir Fire Department.
